New Projects, New Cameras, New Plans, Oh My!

Hey and welcome to the Spring '11 semester of TVP! We have some exciting updates for you and hope that the new formats for meetings and newly developed projects will keep us up and busy for the rest of the semester!

First: we recently acquired some new cameras (3) along with tripods. These will be used for all of the group's official projects and if you would like to use them, please contact Collin Baker or another TVP officer for permission, but please note that their usage will be monitored closely by the officers and can only be used for projects under the group's name, of for other circumstances determined by the discretion of the president and board.

Second: We have a new format for our meetings. We hope to have both film instruction and actual filming/editing all in one meeting, so that we can learn a new technique and apply it to a project or just practice so that when we go out on film shoots we have some handle on the equipment we are using. Instruction will be by Collin and likely will involve a review of some Film Riot videos, some real-time film editing, and various other media resources. Then application of the techniques through filming will take place, as well as organizing for projects that time permits take place outside of our allotted meeting time.

Third: We have a bundle of projects this semester! Our group has been approached by another on campus organization called UMDvD, the first University DVD lending program for students, so that we have access to Hornbake's large media collection. UMDvD wants us to film some promotional segments.

Every Friday at 1pm, Erasable, Inc., the on-campus student improvisational comedy troupe, performs in front of McKeldin Mall. They have asked us to record their performances as well, and Collin and Deanna have been filming them for a few weeks now, as weather permits. Additional assistance/cameramen are appreciated, and Erasable, Inc. usually puts on enjoyable performances, so it ends up being more fun than work!

We are also hoping to shoot some student films. Collin has a great idea for a zombie film (to be made when the weather gets more bearable and green), and we are open to filming other projects commissioned by YOU! Additionally, Deanna will be making music videos and could always use some extra hands or actors.

In order for these projects to be completed, we need everyone's participation and enthusiasm! Our first meeting of the semester will be taking place THIS THURSDAY at JMZ 2125 from 5pm-7pm.

Make sure you come to the meeting! We are very excited for the new developments, and I know you want to get your hands on our new cameras!
